Expanded Medicaid coverage for Minnesota children goes into effect Jan. 1

As part of the same law change, qualifying 19-and 20-year-olds will be given MA eligibility for 12 months at a time.

"We know that consistent access to health care and regular check-ups improve children’s health outcomes, support school readiness and advance health equity," said Human Services Commissioner Jodi Harpstead. "This new policy takes a big step toward those goals."

The DHS says that the new policy will allow young children to maintain their healthcare access even in the event their parents or guardians have a gap in their health care coverage.

The first phase of the law took effect last January, and allows qualifying children aged 6-19 to remain eligible for Medicaid for 12 months at a time.
